Review: Flaming Dove - Daniel Arenson

Outcast from Hell. Banished from Heaven. Lost on Earth. Laila--half angel, half demon. Laila--of tears and blood, of sins and of piety. Laila--alone, in darkness. This is her story.

My thoughts:
I am a bit torn really, I really liked the book, but the thing is, I hated the end. I am sure many will say, but the end was perfect! Just as it should be. Well not in this girl's book. It made me sad and angry.

The world was just, wow, so cool. Earth is almost destroyed, almost no humans around as they are all dead. Instead demons and angels fight each other in a war going on 27 years. I liked the world, the angels, the demons. All strength and weaknesses.

The main character Laila is both and can neither go to heaven of hell. She is sad, angry and lonely and I loved her. I kind of just wanted to hug her. At least she has one friend, a wolf.

Then there is Michael who is the angel's leaders, and Belzebub who rules Hell. Both need her to win. A battle of epic proportions are about to begin.

I did not like her sister though, Bat El. She was tstl, but at the same time she was not. She was just pure, naive, a harp playing angel, but still I wanted to give her a smack over the head.

Conclusion:
And then there was the end who made me angry. But up to that, one cool book and Arenson a talented writer.

Nice

  1. I am not a very tolerant reader and if the ending is likely to make me angry then I probably wouldn't pick that book up. But, it is such a shame that the ending ruined the book for you!

  4. Sounds like a gritty read, too bad the ending wasn't better for you. What is worse, wrong ending? Cliffhanger or open endings? I can't decide!

    1. Wrong ending, cos with a cliffie at least then you have more to wait for and it can all end good..oh wait..open endings sure suck too. But no wrong endings are the worst

  5. Now I'm super curious about this ending! So since it didn't end super well in your book, I'm assuming this is a stand alone so we won't get an explanation or a change of circumstances in the next book?

  8. At least it gave you some strong emotions. :) It's funny how an ending can make or break a book for us. At least you enjoyed the writing. I've had books like that. Didn't love the story, but still enjoyed the writing.

  9. If I was going to guess what the book was about from the cover, I'd say it's about a purple lady who can shoot circles of flame out of her head.

  10. I've never heard of this until now. And I'm really curious to see what it was that made you so mad with the ending. But sounds like an awesome read. :) Thank you!

  13. It sounds interesting, but I did go oh, oh when you mentioned the ending. If there is one thing I hate it is a wrong ending and so I'm not sure I want to go there...

  17. A bad ending generally ruins the book for me too. So sorry.

  18. Oh the angry end bothers me... Too bad because like you I think the world is very intriguing and well I didn't know this book and I like the cover as well. It's difficult when you really like a book and the end ruin everything because you can have a really good feeling after that...

    1. An ending that you do not like can ruin it all, and sadly for me this time I did :( So I had to rate the book on the rest, trying to anyway

  19. Yes, I need a good ending too or else I get super annoyed with it.

  20. If you felt that strongly then the writer must be good at his job! To evoke such feelings. Even so, sorry the ending wasn't your thing

  21. I'm very funny about my endings. I don't like cliff hangers, bad endings, or wrong endings. I'm just picky I guess. But I sure want to know what was so wrong about it. I'm curious like that.
