Rameau Reviews: Dine and Dash - Abigail Roux

After the fourth book in the Cut & Run series, Abigail Roux continues to write Ty Grady and Zane Garrett alone. I don’t know why this is, but I do like how it shows in the writing. The content is still nonexistent plot and characterization wise, but the text that delivers the somewhat detached scenes is smoother.

Although, I could never pinpoint the exact moments when another author had taken the scene over from the other, I could tell that two minds were working on the scenes because there were logic gaps and action irregularities in the early books. Now, with one author, those remain absent but the repetition is still there. Armed & Dangerous was basically a long list of moments when Ty and Zane told they loved each other.

Dine & Dash is a porny outtake for the series that I didn't find particularly arousing. Oh, well, that comes with reading too much quality fanfiction porn. I’m guessing the author looked at how Armed & Dangerous and decided to mollify her readers with a plotless fuck between plotless books. I’m guessing this works for the die hard fans, but it didn’t for me.

2 stars

  2. Ha! You've been spoiled by too much quality fan fiction porn lol

Everyone goes crazy for this series but recently I've read less than favorable reviews so now I'm not so sure.

    1. I know there's an overwhelming support for the series, but on so many levels it just doesn't work for me. It's entertaining if you've watched Supernatural and would like to theorize what Sam and Dean romance would be like without them being brothers, but that's it.

I'm guessing most people try the first book of the series and either stick with it or abandon it quickly and that's why there are so few negative reviews even for the early books.

  3. Sounds like the only good thing about this was that it was 10 pages so it didn't take too long to read.

    1. No problem. I honestly didn't know I had this much to say about it. That's why I didn't offer first.

If fanfiction is better than a book why to read that book at all? I am skipping it mercilessly and will never look back.

    1. At this point it's like watching a train wreck. It's horrifying and fascinating at the same time and it's too late for me to look away or even try to look away.

  6. This one doesn't sound like one for me either.

    1. Not even if it's free? Because that and the time I spent reading the first four books convinced me. But some call me gullible.

  7. Is this fanfic? I've seen the series all over the place, but unfortunately I don't know anything about it.

    1. I have no proof that it is a fanfic.

Except all the book fanfids that have been made using Supernatural clips.

And all the things I've listed on Goodreads comments under my reviews for the previous books.

There are too many character and plot similarities in these books for me to *not* consider them as fanfics.

Also, I'm reading "Stars & Stripes", the book that comes after this one, and it has a scene talking about "minions" and trench coats. Now, why do those sound so familiar to me....?

To be fair, trench was also mentioned in "Armed & Dangerous", which I remember coming out after Misha Collins had joined Supernatural and Castiel's character was introduced.

      ...er. I'll shut up now.

  8. It's not good when the porn content fails to arouse. Hm.. doesn't sound like a book I would enjoy.

    1. It works for some and doesn't for others. This was a novella but the same goes for every book in the series.

  9. Ha ha a porny outtake...that made me laugh!

  10. I don't think I ever read something like that, but it must be strange to see when the author isn't the same.

    1. Abigail Roux has worked on the series from the beginning. The first four books she wrote in collaboration with Madeleine Urban, but from the fifth book on Roux has continued writing Zane and Ty alone.

I can't think of any other series I've read where the author has changed in the middle of it but I'm aware of at least two them. I believe the author of The Vampire Diaries was contracted and fired and another author was hired to take her place after n'th installment a year or two ago. Please, someone who knows more correct me if I'm wrong.

And then there's The Wheel of Time series where Robert Jordan died and left his notes to Brandon Sanderson to continue and hopefully finish the series. I've read some of Jordan's translated books of the series, but I've not read Sanderson's.

You'll have to ask Blodeuedd ;)

    1. Thanks. There was a slight improvement in the writing when the other author dropped out, but unfortunately it didn't add to the content.

    1. Have you seen the cover for "Stars & Stripes?" If I squint I can see "rooster and eggs" instead of a balloon animal.

  13. Hm. I do love a good erotica, but I think I'll skip this one. At least this didn't take too long to read. Sometimes I think the shorter the book, the harder it is to get into it.

    1. The shorter the story is the harder it is to say anything meaningful of it without utterly spoiling the thing. But novellas work well for people with the attention span of a gnat. Like myself.
